LinXis raises nearly €5 million for first clinical study into fibrosis

The Amsterdam-based biotech company LinXis Biopharmaceuticals has raised nearly €5 million to test its innovative Fibrobody technology on patients for the first time. The investment comes from ROM InWest and existing LinXis shareholders. With the technology, the company aims to more specifically detect and treat fibrosis, a serious condition in which scar tissue forms in organs.

The new funding is an extension of an earlier €15 million investment round, with which LinXis developed its Fibrobody technology. With the additional capital, the company is taking the step into the clinic. In collaboration with Amsterdam UMC and the Tracer Center Amsterdam, among others, LinXis is launching an initial study in people with liver, lung, and kidney fibrosis.

New possibilities for the treatment of fibrosis

Fibrosis occurs when excessive scar tissue forms in organs such as the liver, lungs, and kidneys. As a result, these organs function increasingly poorly. Fibrosis plays a significant role in many chronic conditions and affects millions of people worldwide. Treatment options are currently limited: existing medications can at best slow down the disease, but not stop it. Moreover, they cause side effects because they also damage healthy cells. LinXis aims to change this with a technology that delivers medications specifically to the cells responsible for scar tissue formation.

This is how Fibrobody technology works

LinXis has developed so-called Fibrobodies for this purpose. These are small proteins that can recognize the cells causing fibrosis. By linking these proteins to a drug, the drug can be delivered specifically to the right cells, while healthy cells are spared. The technology can also be used to visualize fibrosis. By linking the Fibrobodies to a tracer, doctors can use a scan to see where the proteins end up in the body. An important advantage of the technology is that it is, in principle, applicable to various forms of fibrosis. LinXis is initially focusing on fibrosis of the liver, lungs, and kidneys.

First clinical study launched

With the new investment, LinXis can conduct the first clinical study. Preparations for this study and the mandatory preclinical safety studies have been completed, and the necessary medical-ethical approval was granted in August 2026. During the study, the company is investigating, together with Amsterdam UMC and the Tracer Center Amsterdam, among others, whether the Fibrobodies actually reach the cells that cause fibrosis in humans. Patients with various forms of liver, lung, and kidney fibrosis are participating in the same study. The first results are expected in 2027.

Bart Nijmeijer, CEO of LinXis Biopharmaceuticals: “Fibrosis is an insidious process for millions of people that ultimately leads to organ failure. Apart from transplantation, doctors can still do too little about it. With this investment from our existing shareholders and ROM InWest, we are taking the step into the clinic. Moreover, a successful first human study substantiates the value of our platform for applications in other organs and for collaborations with pharmaceutical partners.”

That is why ROM InWest invests in LinXis

With the investment in LinXis, ROM InWest supports the development of innovative biotechnology in North Holland. The region has a strong Life Sciences & Health ecosystem, in which biotech companies, hospitals, and knowledge institutions collaborate to new treatment methods. Investment manager Sara Schaafsma: “LinXis combines knowledge of targeted treatment of fibrosis with the clinical expertise of Amsterdam UMC and the specialized infrastructure for medical imaging in North Holland. That combination offers a strong foundation to further develop the technology and bring it to patients. With our investment, we support the translation of research into potential new treatments for a wide range of conditions in which fibrosis plays a central role.”
