Agurotech develops smart sensors and data-driven technology that provide farmers with better insight into water, soil and crops. This helps them to make better choices. This year's drought shows how urgent the task is when it comes to innovation in the agricultural sector. Innovations such as those from Agurotech make an important contribution to future-proof agriculture.
From investment to impact
In 2023 we invested in Agurotech, which then received an investment boost of €1.5 million from Navus Ventures and ROM InWest. In 2025 a second investment round followed with ROM InWest, Navus Ventures, Rabobank Ventures and an entrepreneur from the agricultural sector. The impact that Agurotech is making as an expert in data-driven irrigation management is now clearly noticeable, both nationally and internationally.
Anna Paulowna and far beyond the border
The story of arable farmer Klaas Schenk from Hoeve Lotmeer in Anna Paulowna made that very concrete. Within the 'Sweet Water Farmers' project (Zoetwaterboeren), he has been experimenting with various innovations for years. That an agriculturalist in particular is so enthusiastic about the solution of Agurotech, says a lot about its value in practice. And he is not the only one; people abroad are also enthusiastic. Since our investments in this startup, Agurotech has grown into an international company active in no fewer than 30 countries.
Importance of early-stage investment
This demonstrates the importance of investing in promising innovations with a societal impact at an early stage. During their visit to Agurotech, Mayor Halsema and King's Commissioner Van Dijk were able to experience what such an early-stage investment can lead to.
That is precisely the role that ROM InWest has and is taking: helping entrepreneurs successfully bring their solutions for today's and tomorrow's societal challenges to market. Even, or perhaps especially, when private investors are still hesitant.
