Innovating in Life Sciences and Health
Healthcare in the Netherlands faces immense challenges: rising costs, increasing demand for care, and a growing staff shortage. This requires innovative entrepreneurs who dare to change the rules of the game. Who develop smart solutions that keep people healthy for longer, relieve healthcare professionals, and improve the quality of care.
North Holland as an LSH hotspot
ROM InWest investigated the Life Sciences & Health (LSH) sector, and the outcomes are promising. The Netherlands ranks among the top 10 leading countries worldwide in terms of science and clinical studies in LSH. It turns out that a quarter of the Dutch LSH sector is located in North Holland: over 17,000 FTEs in R&D and high-tech companies are working here on progressive solutions for health and care. Despite this concentration of knowledge and talent, the number of companies in the region that manage to bring truly scalable and widely applicable healthcare solutions to market still lags behind. That is why we support game-changers who accelerate the necessary healthcare transition and ensure that care remains affordable, accessible, and of high quality!
Active in three Life Sciences and Health domains
In practice, we see that growth financing for startups still lags behind (too often). This hinders many entrepreneurs within LSH in their development and scaling ambitions. That is why ROM InWest specifically invests in innovations within LSH that prevent diseases, make treatments more effective, and help control healthcare costs. ROM InWest supports the LSH sector in the region via Innovate, Invest and build on ecosystems. [links naar betreffende pagina’s]. We do that in three domains within LSH:
- Digitale gezondheid: digitale oplossingen voor de gezondheidszorg die helpen bij het slimmer, efficiënter en beter organiseren van preventie, monitoring, diagnose en behandeling.
- Medtech: innovative medical equipment and devices that support healthcare professionals, accelerate processes, and improve the quality and safety of care for patients.
- Biotech: biotechnology (biotech), where knowledge of biological systems and living organisms is used to develop new therapies, medicines, and diagnostics that prevent, detect earlier, or treat diseases more effectively.
In collaboration with the Amsterdam Economic Board, we are building an ecosystem to better leverage the great potential of LSH (Life Sciences & Health) innovations in North Holland.
