Fibrose ontstaat wanneer zich te veel littekenweefsel vormt in organen, zoals de lever, longen en nieren. Hierdoor functioneren deze organen steeds minder goed. Bestaande medicijnen kunnen dit afremmen, maar niet stoppen. LinXis wil daar verandering in brengen met een technologie die medicijnen specifiek naar de cellen brengt die verantwoordelijk zijn voor de vorming van littekenweefsel. LinXis heeft hiervoor zogeheten Fibrobodies ontwikkeld. Dit zijn kleine eiwitten die de cellen kunnen herkennen die fibrose veroorzaken. Door deze eiwitten te koppelen aan een tracer, kan LinXis de cellen die fibrose veroorzaken zichtbaarbaar maken op scans. Door deze eiwitten te koppelen aan een medicijn, kan het medicijn gericht bij de juiste cellen worden afgeleverd, terwijl gezonde cellen worden ontzien. Met de technologie wil het bedrijf fibrose gerichter kunnen opsporen en behandelen.

Die combinatie biedt een sterke basis om de technologie verder te ontwikkelen en naar patiënten te brengen. Met onze investering ondersteunen we die vertaling van onderzoek naar mogelijke nieuwe behandelingen voor een breed scala aan aandoeningen waarbij fibrose een centrale rol speelt.”
