Root Sustainability develops technology that supports companies in collecting and analysing complex, detailed sustainability data, particularly at product level. This data is then converted into simple, usable LCAs (Life Cycle Assessments). With their AI platform, Root Sustainability enables retailers to make smart decisions with product-specific data to concretely reduce their carbon footprint. This is achieved in a fraction of the time and cost that retailers currently need to collect the often fragmented data and subsequently calculate the carbon footprint of their company and products. By using data more intelligently, Root Sustainability helps companies not only to tick boxes for regulations like ISO and CSRD, but to actually make an impact in their supply chain to reduce carbon emissions.
The rising production of consumer goods causes a large proportion of global greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. Consumers, especially younger demographics, are therefore increasingly keen to know how sustainable a product is. For retailers with a large product range, making this transparent proves to be challenging. Investment Manager Lotte Nolten-van Hoek: “Root Sustainability’s distinctive ‘data-first’ approach is changing this and is resonating with customers such as HEMA and Holland & Barrett. With their insights, they contribute to the further sustainability of society. The clearer the CO2 footprint of products is, the more consciously consumers and companies can make choices and potentially opt for a more sustainable alternative. And the lower the CO2 emissions, the better it is for people and the environment.”
