Are you working on a (possible) dual-use innovation?

Get to know the Defence Innovation Team! Defence is building a military that can keep the Netherlands safe and resilient. Defence cannot do this alone. Companies and knowledge institutions are strategic partners in this, not just suppliers. That is why the Defence Innovation Team North Holland (DIT NH) works together with Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the province of North Holland, a representative of the North Holland business community, and ROM InWest.

Dual-use: one technology, two markets

Dual-use innovations are technologies that can be used both for civilian and military purposes. Think of drones, sensors, AI, cybersecurity, or 3D printing. Through dual-use proposals, the defense sector gains faster access to technology developed outside the military, thereby contributing to strategic autonomy. The same technology also makes our ports, airports, and other vital infrastructure more resilient.

For whom?

DIT NH is there for technological startups and scale-ups with a solution that has both civil and military value. And specifically for established SMEs that have never supplied to the Defense Department, but do have technology, knowledge, or production capacity that can be put to good use there. We are looking for companies that can grow in both markets.

Why North Holland?

North Holland is not a traditional defense region. Yet the province has technology, knowledge, and infrastructure that are of great value to the Defense Department, including:

  • Den Helder. The home port of the Royal Navy (CZSK) and a maritime (manufacturing) industry for, among others, maintenance and offshore services.
  • Metropolitan region Amsterdam. Strong in cybersecurity, AI, quantum technology, digital infrastructure and Life Sciences & Health, and the region with the most startups in the Netherlands.
  • Schiphol and the ports. Centres of aviation, transport, industry and logistics and of great strategic value.
  • Knowledge institutions. Among others, TNO in Petten, NLR, CWI, Nikhef, AMOLF and Sanquin. Additionally, two universities with science parks, academic hospitals, colleges and vocational training institutions.

What DIT NH is doing for you

We can help you with various matters: from a clear proposition, through validation with the Dutch Defense (or other organizations that prioritize security & resilience), to the funding to scale up.

Do you have an innovation that could be of interest to the Ministry of Defense?
