De vraag naar duurzame energie groeit, terwijl traditionele energiebronnen steeds schaarser worden. Onder andere agrarische en bedrijven uit de food sector produceren veel organische reststromen, die vaak niet optimaal worden benut. Terwijl deze juist een waardevolle bron voor hernieuwbare energie kunnen zijn. B4Energy zet deze reststromen om in groen gas, waardoor ze bijdragen aan een duurzamere energievoorziening en minder afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen.
B4Energy, een initiatief van sla- en bleekselderijspecialist B-Four Agro, bouwde een innovatieve biovergistingsinstallatie en gasopwerker in Warmenhuizen. Hier wordt biomassa, bestaande uit plantaardige reststromen, omgezet in groen gas. Dit groene gas wordt ingevoerd in het aardgasnet en voorziet zowel huishoudens als de kweeksystemen van B-Four Agro van duurzame energie.
Met de productie van groen gas uit lokale reststromen draagt B4Energy bij aan:
● Vermindering van fossiele brandstoffen
● Optimaler gebruik van agrarische reststromen
● Een duurzamere energievoorziening in Noord-Holland
De biovergistingsinstallatie en gasopwerker werden medio 2016 voltooid in samenwerking met lokale aannemers en met financiële steun van het Participatiefonds Duurzame Economie Noord-Holland (PDENH). Hierdoor werd het project niet alleen een energiebron, maar ook een stimulans voor de regionale economie.
