Greencovery has a sustainable solution to reuse residual streams from the food industry and convert them into valuable ingredients. With this, the company aims to revolutionise the food industry, as cost items—namely the waste processing of residual materials—are transformed into an additional source of income and circular food processing is created.
Greencovery has developed a technology that can convert cocoa husks into three functional ingredients: cocoa fibres, cocoa extract and soluble cocoa fibres. And there is high demand for these, as they offer producers a reliable, cost-efficient and sustainable alternative to cocoa, which has experienced strong price fluctuations over the past two years.
It is no coincidence that Greencovery processes cocoa shells in North Holland. Large quantities of cocoa beans are processed here every year. The leftover shells are now mainly incinerated. Greencovery is now able to extract new, valuable products from them. This makes this region a logical location for Greencovery's next phase of growth.
The Netherlands plays an important international role in the trade in agricultural products and food. After the United States, the Netherlands is considered the world's largest exporter of these products. Moreover, due to its location and ports, our country is an important hub for the trade and processing of food raw materials. A large part of this takes place in North Holland. Investment manager Lotte Nolten-van Hoek: ’That is precisely why a great deal is happening in the field of agrifood innovations in North Holland. We want to support these developments as effectively as possible. We are investing in Greencovery because the company contributes to the transition to a circular and sustainable food system. Their partnership with a North Holland-based industrial food processor ensures an immediate impact and further strengthens the ecosystem in the region.“
