The heat grid is fed by heat from a local small-scale biomass power plant. In addition to the biomass plant, there are two gas-fired auxiliary heat plants, which act as a back-up for peak times and as a backup supply. Thus, this heat grid contributes to a future-proof and climate-neutral region.
Warmtenet Zaanstad proves that sustainability, innovation and economic growth can go hand in hand. By making smart use of local residual flows, the company contributes to a greener Zaanstreek and inspires other regions to also take the step towards sustainable energy supply.
Warmtenetwerk Zaanstad BV was established through close cooperation between Zaanstad municipality, Firan and the Participatiefonds Duurzame Economie Noord-Holland (PDENH). PDENH's financial support was crucial for the rapid and successful realisation of the heat network. Thanks to this cooperation, not only will sustainable heat be supplied, but also the foundation will be laid for an innovative, climate-friendly future.
