Sustenso takes new step towards further growth and development

Sustenso, the innovative company that converts green waste into biogas, will leave investment fund PDENH as of 8 April. That decision follows the sale of the biogas plant in Alkmaar to technical services provider ENGIE, intended to allow the plant to scale up more quickly. Sustenso will continue to cooperate with the new owner and continue other projects on reuse of waste streams such as CO2 and digestate.

PDENH and other financiers provided the necessary investments for the digester in Alkmaar, where biogas is made from fruit and vegetable waste that can no longer be used in other processes. The gas is converted into green energy in the digester, thus contributing to the energy transition.

Strategic choice

Sustenso's choice of exit follows from a combination of factors. Talks with ENGIE
and current funders led to the conclusion that scaling up the biogas plant would
more promising within a large company. Also, a big player offers more opportunities to get into
respond to current movements in the energy market. For instance, Sustenso expects the
sale of the biogas plant to serve the energy transition.

Grateful for support

Hans van der Weide MCM, CEO of Sustenso, expresses his gratitude for the support that
various parties offered his company in recent years. “PDENH and KplusV showed themselves from
involved with Sustenso from the beginning and have guided our team well in making
business plans and funding applications. The financial backing of PDENH and
Rabobank was indispensable to realise the biogas plant in Alkmaar.”

Logical moment

“We are proud to have contributed to Sustenso,” says Jonathan Moed,
Investment Manager PDENH from StartGreen Capital. “PDENH's vision has always been
been that green gas will play a major role in the energy transition. This exit testifies
of the rapid movement in the biogas market. For PDENH, this is therefore a logical moment
to hand over the baton to larger parties.”

“Continue to contribute to sustainable future”

Van der Weide stressed that the sale of the biogas plant to ENGIE was a
deliberate choice that benefits both Sustenso and the planet. “By taking this step
do we provide ourselves as Sustenso with room for an even greater contribution to a
sustainable future. For now, we remain involved in the further development of the
plant and continue to produce nutritional supplements from CO2 and methanol
from digestate - all with a view to innovation and a positive impact on people, region and
nature.”
