Sharing platform Peerby expands to the United States

News

Big news from Peerby, the now well-known online platform where neighbors can share items for more social connection and to prevent waste: the originally Dutch company is expanding to the United States. Founder Daan Weddepohl is grateful for the financial support he received from ROM InWest for the development and scaling up of his company.

With the expansion of Peerby is fulfilling a long-cherished wish for Daan. “I have long been convinced that our solution can be a great success worldwide. But growth comes in steps and in our case it mainly required external financing. ROM InWest offered that helping hand, which allowed Peerby to prove itself as a concept in the Netherlands. We are now 'default live', as I call it. By that I mean that we can exist without external financing. That means that the time ripe for cross-border expansion came.”

Dreamed impact

The first town in Colorado to recently join Peerby is just a few miles away for Daan a new start. Eventually, he wants to conquer the entire US with Peerby. “The more places around the world that are connected to and familiar with Peerby, the faster our concept will sell itself. As that oil slick spreads, sharing things will become more everywhere become the norm. That brings you to the level of impact that I always dreamed of with Peerby.”

Daan's tips for circular entrepreneurship

Daan knows better than anyone that entrepreneurship in the circular economy is no easy task. The years of run-up he needed with Peerby to become a stable company in the Netherlands cost blood, sweat and tears. In 2021, he finally arrived at a profitable business model. Curious about Daan's tips for other circular entrepreneurs? In this article he recently shared his lessons learned from the hard business practice. Take advantage of it!
