Why SecFund?
Innovative companies that (partly) supply defence often encounter obstacles in obtaining financing. Financiers are reluctant and the need for capital is high. SecFund was established to bridge this gap and thus contribute to national security, innovative strength and economic growth. The fund is a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Regional Development Companies (ROMs), with the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) taking care of the implementation.
Who is SecFund for?
SecFund focuses on innovative Dutch companies that are active in the dual-use domain. Think of advanced communication technologies such as LiFi (a faster and more secure form of data transmission) or new generations of radio technology. Companies can receive up to 5 million euros per company, with the possibility of follow-up investments based on progress and interest from Defence as a potential buyer.
How does the application work?
Interested companies can submit an application via the website www.secfund.nl. There is a quick scan available to determine whether the fund matches their financing needs. After registration, the application is assessed by the fund management, in collaboration with Defense and the ROMs involved.
A flying start
Since the announcement of SecFund in October 2024, more than seventy companies have already shown their interest. The first investment has already been awarded to an innovative company active in the defense sector. This underlines the need for a fund like SecFund and the potential of dual-use innovations.
