MedTech scale-up Healthplus.ai has raised €2.3 million for the accelerated roll-out of PERISCOPE®, an AI system that predicts per-patient risk of infection after surgery and links this directly to targeted actions for the healthcare team. With this technology, the company aims to drive the healthcare transition by reducing complications and reducing the workload on healthcare staff. The round was led by Elevating Capital and LUMO Labs, with participation from Pathena Venture Capital, Leistone (Renza Family) and ROM InWest.

Why this matters

In order to keep healthcare affordable and humane, an improvement drive is needed: we need to move towards fewer operations, while improving outcomes. Healthplus.ai is playing a key role in this with their key technology, PERISCOPE®. This system tackles post-operative complications, a major cost and source of workload, saving hospitals up to €4 million a year. PERISCOPE® is rapidly adoptable and integrates seamlessly with the EHR systems serving the Dutch and wider European market, such as Epic, Oracle Cerner and ChipSoft. The system calibrates automatically, ensuring predictions work accurately in all types of hospitals and comply with all regulations. “With this late seed investment, we are strengthening our ability to integrate clinically validated, regulatory-approved AI into everyday hospital practice. Our focus is on working closely with ‘cutting’ specialists, nurses and IT teams so that predictive insights truly improve patient outcomes,” said Dr Bart Geerts, CEO and founder of Healthplus.ai.

Allocation of capital

Healthplus.ai is using the investment to accelerate its rollout in Europe and launch in the US. It is also investing in further development of AI risk models for all phases around surgery. “We are excited about our investment in Healthplus.ai. With accurate patient stratification, doctors and nurses can create a much better treatment plan for patients, intervene faster in high-risk patients as well as let low-risk patients go home safely earlier. This helps patients recover faster, makes the work of specialists more efficient and takes the burden off the healthcare system. We are proud to contribute to a future-proof healthcare system in this way,” says Sara Schaafsma, Investment Manager ROM InWest.

Importance for North Holland

Healthplus.ai is an example of the innovation power that North Holland harbours. The region boasts an impressive ecosystem in Life Sciences & Health and AI - with top-level research, education, campuses, startups, hospitals and investors. This ecosystem is internationally competitive and increasingly visible. Together with Amsterdam-based knowledge institutions, ROM InWest is taking the lead in organising and leading regional cooperation.

Healthplus.ai fits seamlessly into this ambition. As a MedTech scale-up, Healthplus.ai combines AI expertise - in which Amsterdam is a European leader - with clinical innovation in healthcare. With this investment, ROM InWest connects capital and network to a North Holland scale-up that shows what the region has to offer: the combination of world-class AI and Life Sciences & Health, ready to break through internationally.
