DOPS Recycling Technologies has raised €5 million to further develop their innovative DCI™ technology. This technology converts waste into valuable biofuels and feedstocks such as syngas and carbon, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions. The investment will be used to build a modular test unit and scale up the system for the energy transition and circular economy. DOPS focuses on making the industry more sustainable and offering a sustainable alternative to waste incineration.

DOPS Recycling Technologies, developer of innovative waste management solutions, has a seed-investment of €5 million raised from various investors. With this financing, the company can launch its Direct Carbon Immobilization (DCI™)-further develop and scale up technology.

Every year, around eight million tons of waste is incinerated in the Netherlands. In doing so, just as much CO₂ is emitted and valuable materials are lost. Can it be done differently? Absolutely! DOPS Recycling Technologies offers a revolutionary solution to this problem with DCI™. The waste streams are converted into biofuels using DCI™ technology. These are essential for making the energy-intensive industry more sustainable and for decarbonising the transport sector. And dbecause of the use of refractory materials and efficient heat recovery is this system is economically viable even at low volumes.

How does DOPS DCI™ technology work?

With dand DCI™-technology can more than ninety percent of the waste that would otherwise be incinerated or dumped, toto be placed in new raw materialsFor example, think of syngas and carbon. For this purpose, complex waste flows are processed in an oxygen-free reactor heated up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. At that temperature, hydrocarbons are broken down into their basic elements; carbon monoxide and hydrogen. In this way, DOPS converts waste into valuable raw materials without significant CO₂ emissions. In addition, the technology can process various waste streams, which is very much needed in a circular economy.

Michiel Spits, CEO DOPS Recycling Technologies:

“Our technology ensures that waste is not the end, but the beginning of new, valuable raw materials. Thanks to this investment, we can scale up and contribute to the energy transition and a circular economy in which reuse and efficient energy consumption become the norm.”

€5 million for DOPS platform technology
The SEED investment round was made possible by a successful collaboration between Energy Transition Fund Rotterdam of Innovation Quarter, ROM InWest, Innovation Fund North Holland, Init Power, CarbonFix and Alphatron. With the investment, DOPS will build a modular unit (M-DCI) to test the total system. This should lead to a final investment decision for the first factory at customers.

Reynier de Monchy, senior investment manager at ROM InWest, on behalf of the investors:

“The transition to sustainable energy and a circular economy requires affordable green molecules vear industry and chemistry, and a more sustainable alternative to waste incineration. With their robust efficient gasification technology, DOPS converts existing residual flows into valuable chemical building blocks, while drastically reducing CO₂ emissions. The DOPS team has the expertise and experience to scale this innovation to future-proof existing value chains. We look forward to working with management and this group of impact investors.”
