ThePhoneLab shows that sustainability and entrepreneurship can go hand in hand. 38% of consumers still choose to replace a phone in case of damage. ThePhoneLab provides lifetime extension of devices such as mobile phones, laptops and iPads. This is done through repairs, refurbishment and additional services.
The Netherlands' largest repair chain is making a significant contribution to a circular world with these services. Founded in 2015, ThePhoneLab makes smartphone and other mobile device repairs accessible and efficient by communicating transparently about quality and price, and providing fast, flexible service. For example, consumers can send in a broken device, instead of always visiting on site. This approach has more positive impact than you might think at first glance. Meanwhile, the chain has extended the lifespan of more than 350,000 devices, saving over 50,000 kilos of e-waste.
By betting on nationwide insurance coverage and international expansion, the Dutch scale-up is well on its way to becoming a leading player in circular consumer electronics.
ROM InWest's investment will help open at least 10 new shops in 2025 and 2026. This will allow ThePhoneLab to strengthen its position in the Netherlands, accelerate further cooperation with insurers and continue to contribute significantly to the circular economy.
With national coverage, international ambitions and a rapidly scalable model, ThePhoneLab has the potential to become the European standard in circular consumer electronics.
