ROM InWest is investing 5 million euros in Amsterdam-based microscope manufacturer Confocal.nl together with Nascent Ventures. Confocal.nl's technology helps scientists achieve breakthroughs faster in research into effective(r) medicines or innovative agricultural crops. This funding enables Confocal.nl to market its innovative microscopes for live research worldwide.

Live cell imaging for everyone

Confocal.nl develops and produces advanced microscopes that enable scientists to study living cells much more efficiently. The microscopes use minimal laser light at a very high resolution. This prevents cells from behaving differently, fading or dying faster, allowing processes in living cells to be studied longer and more accurately.

Pim Vos, CEO of Confocal.nl: “Our technology makes complex confocal microscopy more suitable and accessible to a wider group of scientists. This is crucial for research into new medicines and treatments for complex diseases.”

Janet Nieboer, CEO of ROM InWest, emphasizes the impact of the technology: “Live cell imaging is a promising technology in the fight against diseases such as cancer. Confocal.nl makes this technology widely accessible, which not only contributes to effective treatment methods but also to lower healthcare costs.”

New investments for further growth

With this investment, Confocal.nl does not only want to be products further automate, but also increase its international brand awareness. “We want to make our technology accessible to both the scientific and industrial research world. That is why we are also investing in our marketing and sales, especially in Europe and the United States,” says Vos.

Strategic partners and vision for the future

With this investment, ROM InWest confirms its commitment to supporting innovative companies that contribute to a sustainable and social economy in North Holland. ROM InWest and Nascent Ventures join the Rabobank Startup & Scale-up team, RVO Innovatiekrediet and other existing investors and partners. These include VCC TechNanoFund, ECFG, University of Amsterdam Ventures and Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland.
