Hydrogen will become an important energy carrier for our future energy system, which should not depend too much on the weather – as with solar and wind energy. But to really be able to rely on hydrogen, we must be sure that it is clean, affordable and safe. Moreover, we must be able to use it smartly and efficiently. With the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) subsidy, the government encourages entrepreneurs to develop innovations for renewable (sustainable) hydrogen and renewable hydrogen carriers.
About the DEI+
With the DEI+ subsidy scheme, entrepreneurs can apply for a subsidy for the development of one or more innovative products and services that help with:
- the production of hydrogen;
- transport and storage of hydrogen (carriers);
- use of hydrogen (carriers).
The total budget is €40 million. The application period has been open since 3 July 2023 and will run until 25 June 2024, 17:00. This scheme is based on 'first come, first served'. More information about this subsidy can be found here. More information about this subsidy can be found here.
Tips for your application from Eric van Heerwaarden, Business Developer at ROM InWest:
- “Start preparing the application in time. The total available subsidy amount will be distributed according to the principle of 'first come, first served'.
- Spar with people from outside your own organization to position your application in the right way: they look at it with a fresh eye. Use existing networks such as those of InWest, RVO or the Topsector and consult an advisor to draw up the application yourself.
- Map out how much you need other players in the value chain to make your innovation a success. Involve them in the application if necessary; as a partner, as a supplier or with a statement of support.
- Do not only focus on obtaining the subsidy, but also on the necessary private financing. The subsidy provider accepts technical risks in the project, but likes to keep the financial risks limited. “
