About us

We love game changers!

about us_ROM InWest development company

At ROM InWest we focus on game changers: ambitious start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs that, with their innovations, are able to accelerate the food transition, the energy transition, digitalisation and/or the transition to a circular economy.

Who we are

ROM InWest is the regional development company for North Holland. Our team of over thirty driven professionals supports startups, scale-ups and SMEs from Haarlem that contribute to the food transition, energy transition, digitalization and circular economy with their innovations. We help find external financiers and also invest in these companies ourselves. In addition to financing, ROM InWest supports entrepreneurs with various programs in scaling up and making their solutions financeable. To offer knowledge and networks, we work intensively with parties in and outside the region.

Our
Core values

Our three core values determine how we work and interact with each other at ROM InWest. We use them not only as a guideline for ourselves, but also as inspiration for entrepreneurs, our partners and society. Our core values are:

Entrepreneurial and impact-driven

The entrepreneur is at the heart of everything we do. We offer professional, effective and flexible support with social impact as the main driver.

Connecting & curious

Innovation comes from entrepreneurship, knowledge, money and a network. That is why we are open to others and want to learn continuously. We work transparently and in close cooperation with regional companies, knowledge institutions and governments to achieve results quickly and effectively.

Inclusive

We believe in a society in which everyone can fully participate, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual preference, age or education. Based on our conviction that more diversity leads to higher quality, we not only want to be a diverse organization ourselves, but we also like to invest in inclusive companies.

Our vision
in North Holland

We believe that innovative entrepreneurs are crucial accelerators of today's major transitions. By stimulating innovative entrepreneurship in North Holland, we want to make the regional economy more sustainable, with equal opportunities for everyone - both for the world of tomorrow and for the generations after us.

How
we you
to help

Are you looking for support for your startup, scale-up or SME? Then ROM InWest is the right place for you. The condition for our help is that your service or product not only yields financial, but also social returns and that you as an entrepreneur look beyond today, tomorrow and the generations after us.

In concrete terms, ROM InWest can help you as an entrepreneur in two ways:

1

No matter how proud you are of your innovation, a business case that connects with your target group is what counts. Our business developers will help you with this issue. Together with...

2

Do you have a smart solution that demonstrably makes a social impact for the world of tomorrow? And are you looking for a professional investment partner to bring your innovation to the market?

Which transitions are we accelerating?

Impact-driven as we are, we at ROM InWest do not just help any entrepreneur. We only invest in your company if you are an ambitious startup, scale-up or SME entrepreneur with an innovation that is able to accelerate the food transition, energy transition, care transition and/or transition to a circular economy. Through these transitions we work on our mission: a sustainable regional economy with equal opportunities for everyone - both for the world of tomorrow and for the generations after us.

How we
impact
to make

Where and how much impact we make as ROM InWest depends entirely on the companies and entrepreneurs we support. Your innovations make the difference. Our compass for our ultimate impact are the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the seventeen goals to make the world a better place in 2030. For example, with regard to poverty, education and the climate.

With what money
are we investing?

ROM InWest invests mainly from the SME Fund and the Transition Fund in companies. Our total investment budget varies from year to year, as does the distribution between the two sources of money. The SME Fund is intended for growing SME companies that work on innovations in general, while the Transition Fund is specifically aimed at entrepreneurs who contribute to the energy transition, the food transition and the transition to a circular economy.

we are growing
fast and
solid

Since the establishment of ROM InWest in 2021, the Netherlands has a nationwide network of regional development companies. Our organization is growing rapidly and thoroughly, in line with our mission: everyone at our company wants to make a real social impact. The fact that many of our colleagues have been entrepreneurs themselves makes us a strong discussion partner for entrepreneurs.
